This is not your typical back to school back pack give-away… if you’re in the South Florida region, this is a holistic approach to “back to school” that you do not want to miss! Everything will be presented to support stress management as well as educational development. Yoga, mindfulness, visioning, healthy eating, personal development, Reiki, Financial Literacy, Teen Rap sessions and much more.

The free event, The Children of the Lotus Retreat, will occur on Saturday, Aug. 20th, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Miramar Multi-Service Complex 6700 Miramar Parkway, Miramar FL 33023. We will offer free lunch and snacks during the day, by our sponsors Whole Foods Market, Beanfield, Raw Revolution….

This year, we are proud to have Dr. Jeheudi Mes Onyemachi Vuai, President/CEO of Gray Matter Neurobehavioral Solutions, LLC. back at the Lotus workshop. His organization provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations for children with a wide range of learning and behavioral difficulties that have not responded to traditional school-based methods.  He will be releasing his new book entitled, “Misbehaving brains.” at the workshop. The title of his presentation is “The brain, healing and empowering children.”

Unlike their parents and grandparents, today’s children are faced with high stakes standardized testing, a global obsession with social media, high-tech gadgets, fast food, and counterproductive reality shows. Our children do not know what it means to sit still, to be focused, to breathe, to acknowledge their feelings, or to be fully present. Dreamcatchers’ founder, Pamella Reid, said that she created the organization to help children and their parents to learn natural remedies for thriving during a time that negatively affects many children’s self-esteem, academic performance and their health.  “We aid children and their families to understand the role that mindfulness plays with stress reduction and how to use really interesting, user-friendly approaches for living healthy lives – mind, body and soul,” Reid explained.

Adult participation in the multi-billion-dollar holistic healthcare and prevention industry has exploded in recent years. Reid said that exposing children to yoga, Tai-Chi, meditation, healthy cooking classes, juicing classes and organic gardening helps them to improve their self-esteem, academic performance and overall well-being.

This is our 4th Workshop and we host a seaside meditation for parents and children. We also host a monthly workshop every 2nd Saturday of the month, garnering excellent feedback. Dreamcatchers for the Soul was nominated for the African American Achievers Awards. To date, Dreamcatchers has serviced over 650 children in the Miami Dade and Broward counties.

“After the seaside meditation, some children expressed joy at receiving tools that could help to improve their attention, focus, and concentration. Some walked away with a real understanding of how to use breathing exercises to relax, focus and make better choices,” she added.

When asked who should attend the Children of the Lotus event, Reid said, “Parents who want help in making better healthy meal choices, children who are being bullied, parents who are worried about their children’s grades, children diagnosed with learning disorders, parents who are interested in home schooling, and any parent who has lost sleep worrying about the future of their children; as well as educators, social workers, mental health professionals.”

Reid said, “It promises to be pretty spectacular.”
